Reading your Registration Outlook

Updated August 27, 2026

On this page

The Registration Outlook is the headline of every assessment: one of four verdicts on whether the mark can be registered as it stands, in that country, for those classes.

The four outcomes

Clear

No conflicts and no registrability issues found. A strong chance of registration as filed. File with confidence, and turn on monitoring afterwards.

Minor issues

Registrable, but it needs an adjustment. Typically: narrow the goods and services, add a disclaimer to a descriptive element, or tweak one element of the mark. The name itself survives — this is not a rebrand signal. The report says exactly what to change.

At Risk

A serious conflict or a distinctiveness problem. The outcome is genuinely uncertain and depends on examiner discretion or on whether an earlier owner decides to act. Read the obstacles carefully, consider narrowing the specification, and take advice before spending on fees in that market.

Critical

A major obstacle — usually an identical or near-identical earlier mark, or a strong absolute-grounds problem. Filing as it stands is very likely to fail. Change the mark, change the classes, or pick a different market.

The per-class forecast

Below the headline, every class you selected gets its own row, because a name can be clear in one class and blocked in another. Each row shows:

  • Success chance — the probability of getting through in that class.
  • Provisional refusal risk or Opposition risk — depending on how that country works. In countries where the office cites earlier marks itself, a conflict arrives as a provisional refusal, which is an objection you can answer and often overcome. In countries where the office examines only absolute grounds, an earlier owner has to file an opposition after publication.
  • Difficulty — Easy, Moderate, Hard or Very Hard.
  • Key obstacles and How to solve — the specific problems and the specific fixes.

If your outlook is driven by one class, dropping or narrowing that class is often the cheapest way to turn a Critical into a Clear.

Practical Outlook and next steps

The headline section also carries:

  • a Practical Outlook paragraph, in plain language
  • What to do next — concrete action items
  • an Expected timeline for the registration process in that country

Overview snapshot

Beside the mark details sits a snapshot card: the Outlook, the absolute-grounds risk, the similar-marks risk and the high-risk classes. Each is clickable and jumps to the relevant section.

What the outlook is not

It is a well-supported prediction, not a guarantee, and not legal advice. Examiners exercise discretion; owners decide for their own reasons whether to oppose. Treat the outlook as the best available basis for a commercial decision — where to spend, where to hold off, and what to fix before filing.
