Searching trademarks
Advanced search
On this page
Advanced search is the second tab on the search form. It adds precision tools that the simple form hides.
Names
- Trademark name — as in simple search.
- Applicant / Owner names — a tag field. Type a company name and press Enter; add as many as you like. This finds everything that owner holds, which is how you build a portfolio view or a competitor watch.
Territories
Two separate selectors:
- Designated — where the mark has effect. This is the usual one.
- Origin — which office issued it. As well as countries, this list includes the IP organisations themselves: WIPO, EUIPO, BOIP, OAPI and ARIPO. Use it to isolate, say, only EU trademarks.
Numbers
Application numbers and Registration numbers, both tag fields. Use these to pull up one specific record when you already know its number.
Dates
Application date and Registration date, each with a from and a to. Useful for “what was filed in this class in the last six months”.
Analysis rules
Six switches, each corresponding to one family of match mechanisms:
| Switch | What it finds |
|---|---|
| Identical marks | Exact matches |
| Similar spelling | Small character differences, typos, fuzzy matches |
| Similar sound | Marks that are pronounced alike, across languages |
| Visual lookalikes | Letter shapes and cross-script lookalikes |
| Partial / Contains | Your mark inside a longer mark, or the reverse |
| Number equivalents | ”4” against “four”, Roman against Arabic numerals |
All are on by default. Turning one off removes that family from the results — useful when, for example, phonetic matches are drowning out the hits you care about.
Lookup-only searches
Normally a search needs a name, at least one country and at least one class. There is one exception: if you supply only an application number, a registration number or an owner name, Demarka treats it as a direct lookup and runs without classes or countries.
That is the fastest way to answer “what does this company own?” or “what is the status of this application?”.
Turning a lookup into a watch
When a search is a single-owner lookup with no mark text, the results toolbar offers Watch this owner — it creates a monitoring job that alerts you whenever that company files or registers something new. See Setting up monitoring.
